Pure Las Alpujarras
The second sart of the hiking path GR-7 in Las Alpujarras starts in village Valor by taking historic trail that long time ago was called e Camino Real, joining Granada with Almeria. On our way we can see the Puente de la Tableta, and after crossing the river we take the track on the left. After arriving at a crossroad, where we will go to the right, passing over a irrigation ditch. Again we will find an intersection, take the path back to the right until you reach Cuesta Viña, where we can visit tiled ferruginous water fountains of the past.
We continue to take the path on the left by a trail that crosses a couple of irrigation canals until we reach a roadtowards village Yégen. We take a path on the left that runs under the road, and between orchards we get to the city center. Yégen is internationally famous, thanks to the English writer Gerald Brenan. We can see the house where he lived, besides the church Iglesia del Dulce Nombre del Niño Jesús with Mudéjar coffered ceiling, and hexagonal fountain in the square Plaza de la Ermita.
We follow the road to Cortijada de Montenegro, through the Barranco de los Quiebros, where we can drink from a beautiful spring, El Salto del Gitano. The hamlet of Montenegro is a farmstead surrounded by olive trees, and next to the irrigation canal wetake the path to the right. This canal arises from the Fuente de Montenegro, beautiful spring that emanates from the rocks (limestone). We take the road Camino del Fresnillo to cross the river Mecina.
Before reaching Golco we will find a source on either side of the path, on steep ascend of 150 m of altitude. We will find the church Iglesia de Nuestra Señora de Gracia, one of the oldest in the area, built in the late sixteenth century, and ruins Las ruinas del Castillejo, the strenghold of Aben Aboo, according to the legends.
The last part of the route leads us to Mecina Bombarón, village full of greenery and cooled by an irrigation canal. Area also known for its crops of beans and delicious winter apples path. At Messina bombarón we should not miss the church Iglesia Parroquial de San Miguel Arcángel with rectangular cover over arches and Arabic tiles, mid-eighteenth century; The Puente Medieval, the best preserved medieval bridge in Las Alpujarras and listed as a Property of Cultural Interest; and the shrines Capilla de los Remedios and Ermitica de las Ánimas.
